Places to Go – Cedar Breaks Winter

cedar breaks winter Photo via NPS

Cedar Breaks is one of Southern Utah’s oft-forgotten gems.  In the summertime, a quick drive up Cedar Canyon leads you to several lookout points where you can gaze at the resplendent red-rock beauty that is Cedar Breaks, but did you know that the National Monument is open for several recreational activities during the winter as well?

The scenic drive to Cedar Breaks is closed during the winter, but access into the park is available via cross country skiing, snowshoeing or by snowmobiles, with groomed trails available throughout the Monument.

A yurt was constructed recently to serve as a winter ranger station and is open each weekend during the winter from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Stop by the yurt to warm up and enjoy hot chocolate as a break from the cold.

Cedar Breaks doesn’t collect fees during its winter season,  so enjoy your winter recreational activities for free.
